چکیده

As an example of the type of prediction which can be made using this type of simple model, consider the following experiment: Pull on both ends of a polymer and measure the force f required to stretch it out2 . Note that the force will be given by f = −(∂F/∂R) where F = U − TS is the Helmholtz free energy (T is the temperature, U is the internal energy, and S is the entropy). In the simplest randomwalk model of a polymer chain, we neglect forces between monomers (and the solvent), aside from the constraint of connecting the monomers in a chain, so there is no internal energy, U = 0. The free energy is thus fully determined by the entropy, S, which essentially

introduction: This study was aimed to determine the personality dimensions which can influence the relapse of opioid substance dependents that are under methadone maintenance treatment. Method: In this prospective study 210 addicts who were referred to methadone clinics in 1389 were selected through judgmental sampling. All participants completed the self made questionnaire and Temperament and ...

A self-regulation perspective on avoidance and persistence behavior in chronic pain: new theories, new challenges?

OBJECTIVE Behavioral factors such as avoidance and persistence have received massive theoretical and empirical attention in the attempts to explain chronic pain and disability. The determinants of these pain behaviors remain, however, poorly understood. We propose a self-regulation perspective to increase our understanding of pain-related avoidance and persistence. METHODS A narrative review....

Detailed scaling analysis of low-force polyelectrolyte elasticity.

Single-molecule force-extension data are typically compared to ideal models of polymer behavior that ignore the effects of self-avoidance. Here, we demonstrate a link between single-molecule data and the scaling pictures of a real polymer. We measure a low-force elasticity regime where the extension L of chemically denatured single-stranded DNA grows as a power law with force f : L approximatel...

Fear-avoidance and endurance-related responses to pain: new models of behavior and their consequences for clinical practice.

OBJECTIVES Patients' beliefs and expectations about their pain have been identified as important disabling factors in chronic musculoskeletal pain. Besides fear-avoidance beliefs and pain-related fear, cognitions such as thought suppression as well as pain/task persistence behavior have been shown to be associated with pain and disability. The aim of this report is to present a critical evaluat...

Self-avoiding trails with nearest-neighbour interactions on the square lattice

Self-avoiding walks and self-avoiding trails, two models of a polymer coil in dilute solution, have been shown to be governed by the same universality class. On the other hand, self-avoiding walks interacting via nearest-neighbour contacts (ISAW) and self-avoiding trails interacting via multiply visited sites (ISAT) are two models of the coil-globule, or collapse transition of a polymer in dilu...
